With Autumn fast approaching I’m obsessing over the trench coat. So far this year, we have seen an array of trench styles walking down the runways and streets of the big fashion capitals in varying fabrications. With Copenhagen and Oslo fashion weeks having just taken place, it was clear our favourite street style bloggers were also obsessing over all things colorful, plaid and trench coats.

Not to mention 2018 saw the appointment of Riccardo Tisci as Chief Creative Officer at the quintessential British label, home of the Trench, Burberry. Tisci has paid homage to Burberry’s classics, by creating the Resort 19 collection, subsequently named “B Classic”. In my view, this has brought the trench into the foreground once again and caught the eye of our favourite fashion influencers.

For me, you can’t beat the classic trench, it’s timeless and a piece you’ll have in your wardrobe for years to come. See my ideal trench which I illustrated below, it has the key components which make up the classic trench coat. I must say though I like my outerwear to be over-sized which adds a cool edge, not to mention the fabric will make or break it for me. Even better a worn-in hand me down from your Grandfather would be the best.

When considering it for your range, it’s important to offer something that has a point of difference, an amazing fit, to die for fabric or an avant-garde interpretation. So, get creative and don’t be scared to take on such a classic.

Here are my top 5 styles we’re likely to see this Autumn/Winter and well into 2019:

1. The Classsic

2. The Plaid

3. The Oversized

4. The Transparent

5. The Pop Colour
