With the decision made, the bag packed, the ticket in hand and only a 20hr flight in between me and realizing my life long desire to live in Europe, I couldn’t believe it was happening.

After an emotional rollercoaster of a week, essentially packing up my life as I knew it, I was desperate to get the show on the road.  It was a life changing decision that was made very easily and without hesitation. I knew it was now and the only regret would have been if I never went at all.

It’s now been 4 months and life in Berlin has exceeded expectations. That’s not to say I haven’t had my moments of missing the people back home, but it’s been worth it! The beginning has been about travel, exploring and being unemployed for the first time in 16 years.  With a good dose of German bureaucracy, I’ve now sorted my registration (Anmeldung) and visa so now the challenge comes of working out what’s next.

Having spent the last eight years as a Fashion Designer of an iconic Australian label, I bring with me a wealth of knowledge and experience to my new home in Berlin. Through my work in the design of contemporary womenswear, I have gained a strong understanding of technical design, concept development, textiles and garment construction. The dynamic nature of my previous role also allowed me to utilise my diverse skill set in managing suppliers, refining trade sketches, product development, fabric sourcing and accessory buying. I arrived feeling confident in my ability and I have the drive to succeed.

So, what’s next…? Who knows…but it’s going to be interesting!
